Rigaku XtaLAB Synergy-S

GENERAL INFORMATION

Location: Havemeyer 544

The Rigaku XtaLAB Synergy-S is a single-crystal X-ray diffraction system used for molecular structure determination of crystalline materials. This instrument employs X-ray diffraction to measure the positions of atoms within a crystal lattice, providing complete structural information including bond lengths, bond angles, molecular geometry, and absolute configuration. The Synergy-S is equipped with dual high-brilliance PhotonJet-S microfocus sealed-tube x-ray sources with high precision multilayer mirror focusing optics for Cu and Mo radiation, a high-speed Kappa 4-circle goniometer with telescopic 2-theta arm, a HyPix-ARC 100° Curved Hybrid Photon Counting (HPC) Detector, and integrated CrysAlisPro software platform.

FEATURES:

  • PhotonJet-S Cu & Mo 50W Microfocus X-ray Sources:

    • Sealed tube micro-source with confocal multilayer optics provides high brilliance, high intensity Cu (Mo) x-ray beam with 110 (100) um beam size

    • Motorized Divergence Slit for PhotonJet-S Cu:

      • A motorized, software-controlled, slit for setting the X-ray beam divergence angle between 1 mrad minimum and 9 mrad maximum.

  • HyPix-ARC 100° Curved Hybrid Photon Counting (HPC) Detector

  • Oxford Cryostream 100 Low-Temperature System

    • 80-400K operation with automatic refilling

The system is commonly used for complete structure determination of small organic molecules, organometallic compounds, coordination complexes, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), and inorganic solids. Applications include confirming the identity and purity of synthesized compounds, studying intermolecular interactions and crystal packing, analyzing polymorphs and solvates, and determining absolute stereochemistry.
